Within the walled city there is a very interesting fisheries museum which is well worth a visit for those with an interest in fishing and fishing boats, more an old style establishment with factual exhibits rather than state of the art interpretations.

Concarneau
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concarneau
Concarneau (Breton: Konk Kerne, meaning Bay of Cornwall) is a commune in the Finistère department in Bretagne in northwestern France.
The town has two distinct areas: the modern town on the mainland and the medieval Ville Close, a walled town on a long island in the centre of the harbour. The Ville Close is now devoted to tourism with many restaurants and shops aimed at tourists. However restraint has been shown in resisting the worst excesses of souvenir shops.

Pont-Aven
Pont-Aven translate to River bridge - Aven as in the Englisn Avon, Breton and Welsh Aber.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pont-Aven
Pont-Aven is mainly known because of the group of artists who flocked round Émile Bernard and Paul Gauguin, and who were joined in 1888 by Paul Sérusier. They were collectively known as "Pont-Aven School" (French: École de Pont-Aven, Breton: Skol Pont-Aven).

St Thelo ~ Memoire en Demeure by Tadashi Kawamata
"Memory in Progress"
This is an art installation within some derelict weavers cottages that was created by the Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata otherwise the buildings were to be demolished. "He expressed the wish to preserve them, for they too, on a par with the merchant’s house, tell of the econmic, social and cutual history which form Saint-Thélo’s identity."

The next posts will be from the Societe Jersiaise history section trip to Brittany in 2007.
Our trip started by coach from St Malo to Quimper, we stopped for lunch at St Thelo, the food and service was exceptional value for a set menu of 18 euros, with wine.
