La Table des Marchands

Our guide Monsieur Joel Lecornec
Bases where other menhirs once stood
Broken Menhir estimated at 280 tonnes!
View all 6 photos...
I had a slight mishap with the controls on the camera at this site and and lost a handful of
photographs, but you get the feeling of this very important and interesting site. The capstone on the burial chamber is part of a former menhir with an axe carved in it, another piece of the menhir is on an a island a couple of miles away, as the carving matches perfectly the onbe here.

More pictures of the site:

These stones were erected around 3300 BC, and possibly amounted to 10,000 at one time. They are in line with the setting of the sun (?). These stones may have been an early form of chronometer or fertillty monument, with the planting of crops being when the sun set or rose at a certain part of the horizon.

Are the stones placed there by human, or is it natural?
Nice calm pictures.

The Chateau dates to before the 13 th century. It was a favourite residence of the Dukes of Brittany till 1532 when Brittany signed a treaty with France.

I first visited Suscinio maybe 15 years ago. The work they have done since then has been so dramatic as they have gradually restored it to its former glory. Makes you realise what power is all about ! I've been back 6/7 times in the intervening years. Thu 24-Aug-2006 18:20

A little break from my holiday snaps for some of yesterdays surf at Petit Port, sadly the swell dropped off today. But an autumnal weather chart looks set to bring some decent surf this week.

Built in 1330 by Josso a knight of Duke Jean II.
In 1681 it passed to the Rosamadec family who ruled over 600 ha of land.
The building had several extensions the most notable in the style of Louis XIII.
It also became the residence of several Bishops of Vannes.

The Breton beer Mor Braz, brewed with sea water, is produced in Theix
