The ormer could be said to be a national emblem for Channel Islands, its flesh is highly prized and makes a wonderful stew or they can be fried after it has been tenderized by being bashed . It is similar though smaller than abalones.

In the 19th century 10 to 30 tons would pass through the market in a tide, the shells were exported and used for inlay in furniture.

The swell has died down a bit, but still a small clean wave here. not so warm as yesterday 16 C air sea 9 C.

Thanks for the feed back, I am a newcomer also with a new camera (Pentax *ist SLR) and it will take some time for me to get to grips with it all. But enjoying the experience I think !
