Blue hut or Tomson hut, now owned and used by the Butler family, at one time it was used by a fisherman who wrecked the sandwich tern nests and since then they have never nested there, the rock is still used by common terns for nesting, although human invasion and seagulls are an ongoing problem.

In the 80's the roof was blown away by south easterly gales.

This is at Les Ecrehous a reef 6 miles east of Jersey and 7 miles west of Carteret, Normandy. Ecrehous is from the the Norse Esker Hou which means Stony Bank Island, the bank of pebbles/stones in the picture is called the Taille (Tail) its shape and size varies greatly depending on the wind direction and the tides.
The Island has had two hermits Philippe Pinel in the 19th century and Alphonse Le Gastelois in the 20th.
On the adjacent Island of Maitre Ile monks once lived there, I will be uploading various pictures from here during the summer all being well.

Cheers Nick Jersey - grey and gloomy, still some good surf at St Ouens.

"would you buy me a pint... " If you can track me down you would deserve one. I always keep a good stock of beer, wine and Norman cider in the hut (pictures one day, it is different). Good sea food on the barbecue - sea bass, lobsters and oysters.
There is a book on the rocks edited by Chris Blackstone which details the rocks history from year dot to present day French invasions.
Cheers Nick
